The article analyzes the causes of the trade union movement crisis across the world. The thesis about transformational changes in the world of work during the transition from industrial to post-industrial economy as the main factor of modern trade unions decline is comprehensively substantiated. The following peculiarities of the trade union crisis in Russia are revealed: opposition to TU independent activities on the part of the authorities and business circles; simulation nature of the trade unions’ attempts to protect the interests of workers; indifference or unwillingness of the majority of rank-and-file workers to actively participate in defending their interests. In conclusion, the prospects for revival of the labor and trade union movement in the short and medium term are evaluated.
